Bond set at $75,000 for McAllen ISD teacher accused of trafficking drugs
A federal judge on Friday set bond and conditions of release for a McAllen Independent School District teacher accused of working for a Reynosa-based drug trafficking organization for more than a year.
Jorge Ignacio Cavazos' bond was set at $75,000, according to court records.
If posted, Cavazos will have to surrender his passport and will be restricted from traveling to Mexico, among other conditions.
McAllen ISD has placed Cavazos on administrative leave, as CBS 4 News previously reported.
According to the federal criminal complaint against him, Cavazos stated he was responsible for receiving narcotics that were smuggled across the border.
