Border crossings sees increase in travelers after Christmas

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents said this time of year is the busiest to travel.

Today, an estimated 18,000 vehicles and 12,000 pedestrians have traveled through the Brownsville Gateway International Bridge in a six hour time frame today.

Five lanes were open to speed up the process.

CBP said that with the high number of people traveling across the border, inspections for contrabands are important.

Customs agents suggest that travelers have documentation and ID TMs ready to go through the process when crossing the bridge.

It is also important to declare items you are bringing over into the United States, especially if you are carrying more than $10,000.
