Border Patrol agent charged for damaging ex-girlfriend TMs family vehicle

A Border Patrol agent was arrainged Friday evening after he was arrested for kicking and scratching the victim TMs father TMs car.

Mercedes police were called to the 1300 block of South Garza for a disturbance before 11 p.m. New Year TMs Eve.

According to court documents, Daniel Santa Cruz first got into an argument with his ex-girlfriend that began in Weslaco.

During the incident, the victim said Cruz stole her cell phone.

Cruz TMs ex-girlfriend told police that a report for the cell phone was already filed, and she was present at his residence to provide a physical address.

Documents stated that the Mercedes resident came to the black 2013 Hyundai Sonata the victim was driving, and began to kick the vehicle.

The 18-year-old kicked the front and rear driver doors.

According to documents, the victim stated she saw Cruz scratch the hood and trunk with an object.

The father of the victim arrived at the scene and told police he wanted to file charges against Cruz for the damage to the vehicle.

Investigators met with the father of the victim Thursday where he said the total damage caused to the Hyundai ranged from $1,307 to $1,732.

Charges were filed the same day.

Cruz was arraigned in his uniform Friday around 6 p.m. and charged with criminal mischief.

A bond of $10,000 was set for the Border Patrol agent.

Cruz asked for a PR bond but was denied the request.

He could possibly face criminal charges in Weslaco for stealing the cell phone.
