Border Patrol "tackles" smuggling suspect outside Brownsville airport

An immigrant smuggling suspect is facing criminal charges after he allegedly tried to flee from Border Patrol agents near the Brownsville airport.

U.S. Border Patrol officials told Action 4 News that the whole incident started off Nursery and Southmost Roads on Wednesday morning.

Border Patrol agents were called to the area after a concerned citizens saw several illegal immigrants being loaded into a vehicle.

The agents tried to stop the vehicle but the driver refused to stop leading them on a brief chase.

Border Patrol officials reported that the driver bailed out of the vehicle off Les Mauldin and Emilia Earhart Roads where he fled on foot.

Agents were able to chase down the driver and found eight illegal immigrants inside the car with two of the immigrants in the trunk.

The name of the of driver has not been released at this time but he is expected to face criminal charges.
