Boyfriend arrested after putting a woman in a headlock

Authorities arrested a man after he allegedly threw his girlfriend against a wall and choking his girlfriend by putting her in a headlock.

The incident happened around 2:30 a.m. Sunday, July 6th on the 600 block of north Crockett Street in San Benito.

Authorities said the victim made a call asking for help while a child was heard crying in the background.

Officers came in contact with the 37-year-old victim at the residence.

The victim told police that her boyfriend, David Ignacio Garza had assaulted her multiple times.

Garza allegedly threw the victim against the wall, and placed her in a headlock choking her.

The 24-year-old fled the scene before police arrived at the home.

The San Benito Police Department said the woman TMs face was swollen and had a cut on her lip.

Authorities found Garza in a shed behind the home a short time later.

Police arrested the 24-year-old for assault family violence impeding breath, a 3rd degree felony.

An Emergency Protective Order was issued against Garza.

Garza was transported to the San Benito Police station, and his bond was set for $40,000.

He was soon taken to the Cameron County Jail.
