A pair of brothers is behind bars after Border Patrol agents allegedly caught them smuggling marijuana near the Brownsville landfill.
U.S. Border Patrol agents filed federal drug charges against Rafael Garcia-Covarrubias and Miguel Garcia-Covarrubias over the weekend.
Court records released late Monday show that agents spotted three men carrying bundles near Brownsville landfill around 7:30 p.m. Friday.
The third person got away but the two brothers were arrested.
Authorities found two bundles with 81.9 pounds of marijuana at the scene.
The two men told Border Patrol agents that they didn't know anything about the marijuana claiming they only crossed illegally to work.
Both men appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Felix Recio in Brownsville on Monday.
Judge Recio denied bond for both of them until a Thursday afternoon hearing.
