Brownsville bicyclist dead after getting hit by motorcycle

A Brownsville man riding a bicycle dead and the man who hit him with his motorcycle is behind bars.

It all happened on the 200 block of East Price Road just after 1 a.m. Tuesday.

Brownsville police arrested 43-year-old Victor Zamora on an intoxication manslaughter charge.

Investigators said Zamora was riding his motorcycle east on Price Road when he hit 48-year-old bicyclist Jon Mark Rangel from behind.

Police said Rangel died at the scene and the tragedy serves as a warning for anyone riding a bicycle in the dark.

"Make sure your bike has reflectors, said Brownsville police spokesman J.J. Trevio. If you can get lights on, do it. In this case the cyclist did have a blinking light that was still blinking when officers arrived."

Neither the motorcyclist nor the victim were wearing a helmet.

Officers reported that they could smell the alcohol on Zamora TMs breath.

Paramedics took Zamora to a local hospital for medical clearance and a mandatory blood draw.
