Nineteen firefighters responded to the Jim Wilkinson Iron and Metal Inc at 7:59 p.m. on Friday after a fire broke out at the scrap yard.

An area of the scrap metal facility was smoldering, according to the Brownsville Fire Department.

Action 4 News archives show this is not the first time the fire department has been called out to the facility located on 3145 East 14th Street.

The scrap yard breaks down cars and recycles the materials.

Firefighters were able to gain control of the fire within 48 minutes and no structure damage was reported to the buildings.

The Brownsville Fire Department is working on obtaining the exact cause of the fire.
