He spent more than a year on the run, but a man accused of stalking and shooting his ex-girlfriend is now behind bars.

Brownsville police arrested 27-year-old Victor Manuel Hernandez on Monday morning.

Hernandez is accused of shooting 21-year-old Yazmin Reyes back in May 2012.

Investigators said Hernandez had a difficult time dealing with their break-up, stalked her and shot her several times at her Keith Lane home.

Hernandez fled to Mexico but Brownsville police reported that he arrived at the Gateway International Bridge accompanied with a lawyer to surrender on Monday morning.

The Brownsville man remains in custody where he is expected to be arraigned on Tuesday morning.
