A 20-year-old man has been charged with the Sunday evening death of a Brownsville Parks & Recreation Department employee.
Brownsville police arrested 21-year-old Andrew Barrera on criminal negligent homicide charges on Sunday.
Investigators told Action 4 News that Barrera was involved in an accident at the intersection of Dockberry Road and Jaime Circle at 5 p.m. Sunday.
Officers said Barrera was behind the wheel of a Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck that hit 31-year-old motorcyclist Jorge Daniel Hurtado.
Investigators said Barrera left his Jaime Circle home to see his girlfriend and go to work but had forgotten something at his house.
Police said Barrera turned around, cut off another car and then hit Hurtado's motorcycle while turning on to Jaime Circle.
Officers said Hurtado was killed in the accident.
Investigators believe Barrera was going 28 mph at the time of the wreck.
Police identified Hurtado as a Brownsville Park & Recreation Department employee responsible for coordinating baseball and softball games at city-owned fields.
Jail records show that Barrera is free after posting a $10,000 dollar bond.
Police records show that Friday was Barrera's 21st birthday.
