Brownsville mom jailed for leaving kids at home while going out

A Brownvsille mother is facing criminal charges after she allegedly left her four children at home while she went out.

Brownsville police arrested 30-year-old Anna Belia Mares on child abandonment charges early Saturday morning.

Investigators told Action 4 News that police officers were called to the 600 block of Old Port Isabel Road around 3 a.m. Satudray.

A witness told officers that there was a 2-year-old child wandering the streets alone.

Police found the child TMs home where four other children ranging from 13 to 7 years old were all home alone.

The 13-year-old child told police that their mother left to go out and that the babysitter left to her apartment.

Mares arrived while police were there and told them she left before the babysitter arrived and she didn TMt call to check to see if the babysitter had arrived.

Police charged Mares with four counts of abandoning/endangering a child with intent to return.

Mares appeared before a Brownsville municipal judge where she was issued $30,000 dollars on bonds.
