A Brownsville mother is facing criminal charges after her toddler was found wandering streets.

Brownsville police arrested 29-year-old Carolina Escamilla on a child endangerment charge on Monday evening.

Investigators told Action 4 News that officers were called out to the 1100 block of Morningside Road near the city's airport.

Witnesses told police that a 18-month-old child was alone and wandering along the busy roadway.

Police said that area of Morningside Road has a curve limiting visibility for passing motorists.

Officers found Escamilla, who allegedly told police that she didn't know her child was missing from her house.

Authorities left the toddler in the custody of its grandmother and notified Child Protective Services.
