(KGBT) -- Three trees were planted Thursday at Tres Angeles Park in Brownsville, a symbol for each life lost in a brutal murder more than a decade ago.

It’s been more than a year since the building where Angela Camacho and John Allen Rubio murdered their three children was demolished.

Two-month-old Mary Jane Rubio, 1-year-old John Esthefan Rubio and 3-year-old Julissa Quezada lost their lives at the apartment building on the 800 block of Tyler Street.

A site that now serves as a memorial.

“The whole community was taken and shocked by what happened here by the facts and details they had to hear,” said Cameron County District Attorney Luis Saenz. “This is part of the healing, so hopefully, we can move on without forgetting.”

Camacho is currently serving three life sentences. Rubio remains on death row.
