Brownsville mayor to propose joining SB 4 lawsuit

Brownsville Mayor Tony Martinez told CBS 4 News he will propose joining the growing lawsuit against Senate Bill 4.

The immigration enforcement law, which will allow officers to question the immigration status of people they detain, will go into effect September 1.

Martinez said the city commission still needs to place the item on their agenda and publicly vote to join the lawsuit, which may take place as early as the next meeting scheduled on July 11.

The cities of Austin, San Antonio, Dallas and Houston have filed lawsuits against Senate Bill 4.
