A Brownsville mother is facing criminal charges after police said her discipline went too far and crossed the line into child abuse.

Brownsville police arrested 29-year-old Beatriz Perez on an injury to a child charge on Friday.

Investigators told Action 4 News that police were called to the 900 block of East Filmore Street for a child abuse investigation.

Police said Perez's 7-year-old boy showed up to school with bruises to one of his eyes, ear lobes and upper lips.

The Brownsville mother told police that she slapped the boy because he was fighting with his sister the day before and she had to discipline him.

Perez appeared before a Brownsville Municipal Court judge where she was given a $7,500 bond.
