Brownsville police are currently investigating a shooting where the school board president was found dead.
Enrique Escobedo, Jr was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
The incident happened this afternoon on the 4700 block of Larkspur in Brownsville.
Brownsville investigators are at the scene piecing together what lead up to the death of the school board president.
Preliminarily finding indicated Escobedo died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
Investigators said family members arrived at the home around 1:00 p.m. after the Brownsville school board president failed to show up for an event.
Authorities said when the family arrived, they set of the alarm and discovered his body in a backroom of his Brownsville home.
Justice of the Peace Linda Salazar has ordered a full autopsy report including a toxicology.
Investigators with the Cameron County District Attorney's office were also on the scene.
The Brownsville Independent School District released a statement saying they are deeply sadden by Escobedos passing.
"He was a dynamic and inspiring leader on our school board for over 10 years," BISD said in a statement.
He was running for Cameron County District Clerk this election season.
