Business owner in jeopardy of losing $1M in drug forfeiture

A federal indictment is unsealed Thursday on against a San Benito business owner.

According to court documents Jose Ignacio Acosta is facing two counts of possession of a controlled substance with a detectable amount of cocaine and one count of conspiring to possess and distribute 5 kilograms or more of a mixture or substance containing a detectable amount of cocaine.

On Wednesday, multiple law enforcement agencies raided Acosta TMs mechanic shop located on the 100 block of Diaz in San Benito.

Minutes later, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and other law enforcement agencies raided a home on the 800 block of Comfort Street.

At least two people were seen in handcuffs but they were both released.

For now, if convicted, Acosta faces 10 years to life in prison and or a $10,000,000 fine.

He must also forfeit $1,000,000 in property if convicted.
