Call 4 Action - Problems & crime plague Harlingen apartments
Fri, 09 Sep 2011 04:10:27 GMT — The manager at Camino Real Apartments in Harlingen told Action 4 News he is willing to fix tenant problems. The building is old and has been around decades. The number of complaints is many."The one below us, apartment 33 is just full of mold, said tenant Mark Williams. My kids are on all kinds of allergy pills. We would be without electricity for days on end, said tenant Michelle Hale.Hale uses a coffee pot to heat her granddaughter TMs bath. Her hot water heater doesn't work, neither does the lock on her front door."Someone has to be here all the time, said Hale. We TMve been broken into twice.Since moving in just two months ago, Hale said she's become victim to two burglaries. She blames the thefts on her broken door."I've been told repeatedly that someone is going to put a key and lock on but that never happened, said Hale.Hale hopes attention from Action 4 News will turn her headache of an apartment into a place she can call home. She and her family just moved from Illinois to escape another bad neighborhood. She said she does not want to move, because the apartment complex is within walking distance to her work. She said her car is not working. The apartment manager said he will begin repairs Friday. He said he is also waiting on the city to come and inspect the property before he can make improvements.
