Call 4 Action: Marine's Medals Recovered
Sat, 16 Jan 2010 21:23:04 GMT —
A former Staff Sergeant with the US Marines had some of his prized military medals returned following a Call 4 Action on Action 4 News.
Donald Malagon said he received about 25 percent of his stuff that was stolen during a burglary at his McAllen home earlier this month.
Whoever TMs responsible made off with a cigar box full of his military keepsakes over the last 11 years.
He turned to Action 4 News to share his story of desperation in hopes his most treasured belongings would be returned.
Jaime Gonzalez and Ruben Quintero saw that story and knew exactly what they encountered while they were cleaning an area at Sharyland Orchards where they work.
Gonzalez said he first came across the military medals, coins and uniform buttons near Mile 4 and Conway in Mission. He called Quintero to ask what to do with it. "He found it on the side of the road and he called me and I told him I remember seeing this on the news last night," said Quintero. Gonzalez pointed out the location where he made the discovery.
The two immediately contacted McAllen police.
In a million years... I honestly didn't think I would get any of my belongings back," said Malagon.
The former staff sergeant is thankful for the help.
McAllen police continue to work leads in the case.
As of Friday night, no arrests were made.Click here to view the original report.
