Cameron County is now under a burn ban.
County Fire Marshal Armando Lucio called for the ban in response to the ongoing drought situation.
The ban will last for two weeks.
After 14 days, Lucio will decide to lift the ban or extend it.
"Local officials have started to do it again and our main reason is to prevent grass fires," said Brownsville Assistant Fire Chief Ramon Muoz.
Residents are not allowed to burn leaves, grass, brush or anything else during the next 14 days.
County officials have also said they will not issue any more outdoor burn permits.
