Aroldo Cadriel has begun the process to file an appeal and get a court appointed attorney.
The 66-year-old was convicted by Cameron County jury for killing Brisna Mireles last month.
He was sentenced to life in prison.
The 20-year-old TMs body was found on the side of the road in March of 2012 on the out skirts of Combes by a nearby resident who was participating in an annual trash clean up.
The Harlingen native was shot twice in the face, once in the back, chest and genital area.
Prosecutors stated Cadriel killed Mirelese because he had felt she used him.
According to court documents, the two were romantically linked.
Cadriel TMs attorney during the hearing discredited the testimony.
The 67-year-old is serving his life sentence and is eligible for parole on 30 years.
