A Cameron County teenager is behind bars after being accused of sexually abusing a younger boy for more than three years.

Cameron County Sheriff's Department deputies arrested 17-year-old Jesus Cristo Serme Chavez on multiple criminal charges on Wednesday.

Court records show that the teen is accused of sexually abusing a 13-year-old boy in the Harlingen and San Benito areas.

The records show that the boy endured more than three years of sexual abuse but made an outcry after being hospitalized in January.

Action 4 News does not report the identities of victims of sexual assault but records show that Chavez knew the boy through his family.

Deputies charged Chavez with two counts of sexual assault of a child and one count of continuous sexual assault of a child.

Chavez remains in custody at the Cameron County Jail under $225,000 dollars in bonds.
