      Car full of marijuana, children lands couple behind bars

      Couple caught with drugs in their car

      A Brownsville couple is behind bars after authorities learned they were driving around with their three children and more than 150 pounds of marijuana.

      Cameron County District Attorney's Office investigators arrested Jesus Pecina-Chaires and Mayra Elvira Alonzo-Gonzalez on Monday evening.

      Investigators told Action 4 News that an agent pulled over their car outside the El Globo Supermarket off U.S. Expressway 77/83 around 7:30 p.m. Monday.

      An agent saw bundles with 154 pounds of marijuana in the backseat of their car.

      The couple reportedly also had their three children in the car. Investigators confirmed that all three children were under 6 years old.

      Investigators filed felony possession of marijuana charges against both of them.

      Both Pecina-Chaires and Alonzo-Gonzalez remain in custody at the Cameron County Jail.
