CBP: 1,055 pounds of marijuana found within avocado shipment
Officers found 1,055 pounds of marijuana within a shipment of avocados at the Pharr International Bridge Saturday, according to a news release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
The seizure occurred after officers referred a tractor-trailer hauling a shipment of avocados to secondary inspection.
CBP officers say they extracted 440 packages of marijuana bundles from the shipment. U.S. Customs and Border Protection estimates the bundles have a street value of $210,980, according to the news release.
Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry Acting Port Director Carlos Rodriguez stated in the news release:
“Our officers’ experience combined with the use of available tools continues to keep dangerous drugs from entering our country.”
The case remains under federal investigation.
