A Matamoros man is behind bars after authorities allegedly found more than 19 pounds of cocaine hidden in the center console of his car.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers arrested 43-year-old Adrian Gonzalez-Garza over the weekend.

Gonzalez-Garza drove up from Mexico at Brownsville TMs Gateway International Bridge in a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban.

CBP officers sent Gonzalez-Garza to secondary inspection where authorities allegedly found 19.22 pounds of cocaine hidden in the center console.

The Matamoros man appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Felix Recio in Brownsville on Monday morning.

Court records show that Gonzalez-Garza is a Mexican national from Matamoros.

Judge Recio denied bond for Gonzalez-Garza until a Thursday afternoon hearing.
