Cell phone use banned in certain school zones

If you're traveling through school zones Tuesday, you better put those cell phones down.

A new state law goes into effect banning drivers from talking on a cell phone while in certain school zones.

While most cities across the Valley are trying to get the signs posted, some say it'll be a few days before they can get to all of their schools.

The Alamo Police Chief Arturo Espinoza tells Action 4 News for the first few days they'll be reminding people of the new law.

But after that, you can expect a ticket.

"What we're going to be doing is letting people know, making stops, telling people that we are enforcing this new cell phone law. And probably in the next few weeks, we're going to really start enforcing it," Espinoza said.

The law only applies if there is a sign posted within the school zone warning the public of the ban.

Not all Valley cities are implementing the ban.
