BELTON, Texas-- A Central Texas man accused of biting a police officer's nose during a scuffle following a traffic stop has been indicted.

The Bell County grand jury on Wednesday indicted 48-year-old Daniel Honorato Masias of Temple, charging him with of assault on a public servant. He remained in Bell County jail Friday on $100,000 bond. Jail records didn't list an attorney. If convicted, Masias could face up to 10 years in prison.

An arrest affidavit says after being pulled over for a broken tail light in April, Masias gave the officer a false name, wouldn't provide identification and tried to flee on foot.

After Masias was in custody, the scuffle broke out and the officer was bitten. Hospital tests also showed a piece of the officer's knee bone was sheared off.
