A Harlingen man was locked up after he allegedly destroyed part of a motel while behind the wheel drunk.
Shawn Wayne Grovo was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated, after he crashed into a vehicle, which slammed into La Copa Inn causing damage to the motel TMs exterior.
The incident happened on November 15, 2013 around 6:53 a.m.
Grovo reversed the Ford F-250 he was driving into a Mitsubishi Montero which propelled into the building, according to a press release by the Harlingen Police Department.
The Harlingen Police Department responded to the scene and believed Grovo was intoxicated because of his blood-shot eyes, slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol.
Police conducted a sobriety test and Grovo was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
According to Grovo TMs records, he had been previously convicted of driving while intoxicated various times.
His criminal history shows he has been convicted of assault charges and is a registered sex offender.
The 51-year-old man was booked on driving while intoxicated for three or more times, a felony charge.
Grovo was transported from the Harlingen Jail to the Cameron County Jail today, where he remains behind bars.
No injuries were reported.
