Seven people are in custody after a chase suspect drove his car through a park and then crashed into a sugar cane field where it caught on fire.
U.S. Border Patrol officials told Action 4 News that it all happened off Business FM 1015 in Progreso.
Investigators said Border Patrol agents tried to pull over a suspicious vehicle but the driver allegedly sped off.
The driver allegedly drove off road, through a city park and then crashed into a sugar cane field.
No injuries were reported but authorities said the car burst into flames burning some of the sugar cane.
Border Patrol agents detained seven people from the car whiled the scene while two others fled the scene.
Weslaco Fire Department officials said the fire erupted again on Thursday night but was extinguished.
