Chase temporarily puts La Joya school under lockdown

It all started with a stolen truck off Azalea Street

Authorities are looking for an auto theft suspect who lead police on a chase and escaped prompting an elementary school in La Joya to gun under lockdown.

Police told Action 4 News that they received the call at around 7:11 a.m. from a home on 1921 Azalea Street in Mission.

The caller said the man jumped into his 2002 white Dodge pickup truck.

According to police, the truck owner got into another vehicle and began chasing the suspect.

Eventually police caught up to the suspect on FM 495 and La Homa Street.

That TMs when the suspect allegedly ran out of the vehicle and into the brush heading south.

Authorities placed E.B. Reyna Elementary School in La Joya on lockdown for a brief moment.

The lockdown has since been lifted as of 9 a.m. this morning.

Mission police is still looking for the individual last seen wearing a gray shirt with blue jeans and a black hat.

He has a light complexion and has a slim built.

The suspect is facing unauthorized use of a motor vehicle charges.
