Since 1983 millions of Americans have participated to bring awareness to Child Abuse Prevention Month. April is devoted to celebrating everything one can do to transform your community into a place that cares about and actively supports children and families. In Texas, more than four children die from child abuse or neglect on average every week, 176 children are confirmed victims every day and 7 children are abused or neglected every hour. Last year, in Cameron County alone, there were three child fatalities and 1,819 confirmed victims of child abuse and neglect. Nelda de Leon with Tip of Texas Family Outreach spoke more about the event on Action 4 Sunrise and told you about a walk coming up. Tip of Texas Family Outreach will be having a "Walk for Child Abuse Prevention" on Saturday, April 13th.
The walk will begin at 8 a.m. at 455 E. Levee in Brownsville and will end atDean Porter Park. Following the walk they will be have a Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Fair which will start at 9 a.m. and end at 1 p.m.
