A San Benito man is behind bars after a child escaped an immigrant stash house and alerted authorities.
It all happened off Los Amigos Road just outside San Benito city limits over the weekend.
U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents have filed criminal charges against stash house caretaker Michael Sosa.
Neighbors told Action 4 News that a small boy came out of the abandoned home, prompting authorities to respond to the scene.
Border Patrol agents found six illegal immigrants inside.
Action 4 News went inside to see the home's living conditions.
Despite the torn walls and ceiling, there were clear signs show that people were recently been staying here.
Chairs, blankets, bags of trash and empty food cartons could be seen from room to room.
Sosa lives across the street from the run-down home, was identified as one of three caretakers.
According to federal court records, Sosa admitted to providing, shelter, clothing and food to illegal immigrants.
Sosa remains in custody at the Cameron County Jail while investigators work to identify the other caretakers.
The San Benito man is expected to appear before a federal judge in Brownsville on Thursday afternoon.
Court records show that Sosa was serving three years probation for a domestic violence case at the time of his arrest.
