New advisories are now in effect for the Rio Grande Valley as we head into one of the coldest overnight periods so far this winter.
A Wind Chill Advisory will begin Tuesday evening at 6 pm ending Wednesday morning at 8 am.
A Freeze Watch has also been extended from the northern counties to include Hidalgo, Cameron, and Willacy from Midnight through 6 a.m.
The combination of temeperatures dropping to near freezing or below and breezy northerly winds will make it feel like it is in the mid 20's by tonight.
A slight chance exists for showers possibly change over to a mix of light sleet or some flurries between Midnight and 8 a.m. exists, mainly in the northern counties and portions of Starr and Hidalgo.
Residents of the area should make preparations to protect plants, pets, and pipes as they are sensitive to the cold.
Also, dress warmly, in layers tonight and tomorrow to protect your extremities.
