City of Harlingen to convert used tires into biodiesel

via MGN Online

The City of Harlingen has announced a new recycling program.

Harlingen and The Tire Recycling and Processing LLC facility will be disposing of all tires at the facility.

The initiative will result in saving money for the city.

Instead of disposing the tires in a landfill, the plan will recycle the tires.

This effort will result in fewer tires being disposed of in landfills effectively decreasing the volume of debris in our landfills, the city said in a statement.

The Tire Recycling and Processing LLC facility will use a pyrolysis process to convert the recycled tires into biodiesel.

They believe the company is the only one in the nation using the process to create biodiesel.

The new program has started and will run through April 30, 2014.

Citizens may take their tires to the facility located on Industrial Way and they will be recycled for a fee.
