As we enter into a New Year, many Valley residents are starting to say goodbye to their Christmas trees.
For many the task of taking down the tree isn't the chore, it's finding a place to bring it. Unfortunately, many of those unwanted Christmas trees end up on the curb or on the side of the road somewhere.
Chris Lash with the McAllen Recycling Center told Action 4 News that the city of McAllen is offering free Christmas tree recycling.
Residents can drop off their old trees at the city recycling center off of Nolana Avenue and Bentsen Drive in McAllen.
"The only thing that we request is that they please remove the stand, ornaments, and lights, Lash said. We just want the tree."
Lash says they'll turn the old Christmas trees into mulch, which is something people can purchase at the recycling center.
She says the tree drop off will last well into the New Year.
