A Mexican man is behind bars in the Rio Grande Valley after authorities allegedly found close to 20 pounds of cocaine in the dashboard of his car.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers arrested 26-year-old Jorge Armando Gutierrez-Mendoza on Tuesday.
Federal court records show that authorities got a tip that Gutierrez-Mendoza would try to smuggle drugs across the border in his green Ford Mustang.
Gutierrez-Mendoza drove up from Mexico at the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge in the Mustang just after 12 p.m. Tuesday.
Customs officers sent the car to secondary inspection where they allegedly found eight bundles with 19.75 pounds of cocaine inside the dashboard of the car.
Gutierrez-Mendoza remains in custody where he is expected to face a federal judge in McAllen.
