A 20-year-old man is behind bars after he allegedly sexually abused a 9-year-old girl and returned to the family's home to apologize.

Combes police arrested Justin Baker on multiple criminal charges on Tuesday.

Chief Patrick Quill told Action 4 News that Baker is from Odessa but had been staying with a family at a home on Dishman Street.

A family member allegedly caught Baker in the act of sexually abusing a 9-year-old girl.

Family members called police and tried to hold Baker but he fled the scene.

Chief Quill said Baker later returned to apologize to the family and they quickly called 911 again.

Baker allegedly fled from officers and struggled with them while being handcuffed.

Officers charged Baker with aggravated sexual assault of a child, evading arrest and resisting arrest.

Chief Quill said Baker provided a full confession saying that he did not know why he did it but that he was left alone with the girl and "something came over him."

Court records show that Baker had previous arrests for criminal trespassing and evading arrest in Odessa back in 2011.

Investigators believe that the crime is an isolated incident solely based on opportunity.

Baker remains in custody at the Cameron County Jail under $77,500 in bonds.
