Authorities told Action 4 News that a body found in the Laguna Madre on Thursday afternoon has been identified as attorney Ray Marchan.
Dive teams have searched all day since the Port Isabel attorney jumped off the Queen Isabella Bridge early Thursday morning.
Justice of the Peace Benny Ochoa confirmed to Action 4 News Marchan jumped off the bridge.
Authorities told Action 4 News he took a taxi cab to the highest point of the bridge and reportedly faked an illness to get the driver to pull over.
The taxi driver told county investigators Marchan exited the vehicle, and jumped without warning around 4:19 a.m. Thursday.
Marchan reportedly left behind his cell phone and a mysterious paint can inside the cab which is now in the hands of investigators.
The U.S. Coast Guard searched by air and land, but came up empty handed.
Marchan plead guilty in 2012 to a federal racketeering case linked to former State Judge Abel Limas who admitted to taking bribes for favorable ruling in his courtroom.
According to federal reports, Marchan was expected to turn himself into authorities today to start serving his 3 1/2 year sentence.
Reports reveal Marchan was wearing an electronic brace.
"I have a lot of respect for Ray and for the family" said Ochoa. "I can't say too much until I see the body."
Cameron County is the lead investigation team on this case.
The American Red Cross has been on the scene providing relief for all first responders.
Action 4 News will provide more information as new details become available.
