Construction at UTRGV's Brownsville campus causes parking issues
Students attending the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in Brownsville say they have been challenged with a little more than just classes this year.
Construction crews continue to work on a multi-purpose building in an area that used to be a parking lot. Though the area still left some parking spots open, students say the construction is causing a chaotic environment.
“I’ve actually almost crashed going through there due to the fact that ongoing and outgoing traffic have to be on the same line,” said UTRGV student Sebastian Cruz.
UTRGV spokesman Patrick Gonzalez says construction should be completed by next year. Until then, Gonzalez says students have alternatives.
“We built a remote parking spot off campus,” Gonzalez said. “We know it’s not campus proper, but we do have shuttle busses that pick them up and drop them off near campus.”
Students with a valid UTRGV parking permit can also use parking spots at Texas Southmost College, Gonzalez said.
