Controversial La Joya school board race driving up voter turnout

The La Joya ISD school board race has heated up and driven up turnout at the Hidalgo County Precinct 3 polling location in Palmview.

Election officials said it is one of the busiest polling sites throughout Hidalgo County.

Five spots on the school board are at stake.

Two factions are going up against each other at the polls in yet another heated election.

One faction called Team Liberty has one incumbent on its roster but is seeking to unseat the I'm On The Bus group and its four incumbents.

Both campaigns argue they're the best for La Joya students.

In the first two days of early voting, more than 1,500 voters cast their ballots at this precinct alone.

Poll watchers told Action 4 News that it TMs not uncommon to see lines forming outside of this polling site as voters tried to cast ballots early.

It TMs a trend that is expected to continue over the course of the next 10 days and has put Hidalgo County on track to break records for this election year.
