Credit 101: What Incoming College Students Need to Know

Right now, thousands of high school graduates are preparing to leave for college.

While they TMll have many new encounters and experiences along the way, some will greatly affect their future. In particular, credit and the many new offers they will get.

Dolores Salinas with the Better Business Bureau joined Action 4 Sunrise this morning to discuss what credit is and what students need to know before they apply.

Here are some tips:-Shop around for a carrier.-Look for APR that is 15% or lower.-Look for carriers that offer no annual fees.-Be sure to know if the rate is going to increase, and what the increase percentage is.-Use your credit card sparingly. Only charge what you are capable of paying back at the end of the month.-Pay off your balance each month.-Make your payment as early as possible in the month to avoid late charges. Watch for carriers that change the due date on you.-Periodically call and ask for a lower interest rate.-Check your credit report annually for errors.
