Dangerous encounters for Border Patrol agents over weekend

Two Border Patrol agents had to fire their service weapons in defense along the border Saturday morning.

One agent opened fire after being pelted with rocks. Border Patrol spokesperson Henry Mendiola said the agent started shooting after being unable to take cover when the rocks were being thrown.

Another agent saw a person on the Mexican side of the border pointing a gun at him. He fired in defense.

Mendiola said neither of the agents were injured.

The Mexican government was notified and responded to the area. It is unknown if anyone on the Mexican side was injured.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is investigating and several people are in custody.
