At least two gunmen are dead and others are believed to be wounded following two deadly shootouts in Reynosa and neighboring Rio Bravo.
Mexico's Ministry of National Defense (SEDENA) confirmed that the two shootouts took place early Friday afternoon.
SEDENA officials confirmed that the first one took place on a rural road off the Reynosa-Matamoros Highway in Rio Bravo around 12:20 p.m. Friday.
Soldiers on patrol were ambushed by gunfire but the battle ended with one gunman being killed.
The soldiers reported finding trails of blood but did not find any of the wounded suspects.
The second shootout happened very close to the Instituto Tecnologico de Reynosa around 1:45 p.m. Friday.
SEDENA officials reported that a gunman was also killed in that battle.
Soldiers reported seizing vehicles, weapons and ammunition in both shootouts.
