A horse TMs body lay headless in the middle of Highway 1015 and Mile 12 1/2 in Weslaco Tuesday night.
The horse was hit by a man driving a pickup truck just after 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) state troopers are investigating the accident.
State troopers are trying to find the horse's owner and to find out how the animalmade its way to the busy highway.
The impact of the accident left the horse headless.
The driver was taken to Knapp Medical Center with minor injuries while crews cleaned up the scene slowing down traffic.
No charges have been filed at this time.
Under Texas state law, horses and other livestock have the right-of-way on rural roads.
