Saturday evening Jesus Moreno was sitting in front of his house underneath a tree enjoying the day when all of a sudden, several law enforcement vehicles arrived.
I saw immigration come in and then another, and another. I saw about seven immigration cars and I was thinking, ~what TMs going on over there?" Moreno said.
Just feet from his home, was a badly decomposed body of a woman.
He said two teens discovered the body and quickly flagged down Border Patrol.
They then alerted the Hidalgo County Sheriffs Office.
Jesus said it TMs not uncommon for U.S. Border Patrol officials to patrol that area since it TMs so close to the Rio Grande. People come from Mexico you understand, they come to put food on the table for their kids some come for other things and others come to work," Moreno said.
Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Trevino tells Action 4 News the body was discovered at the National Wildlife Refuge which sits on federal land.
The FBI is now leading the investigation, with three sheriff investigators assisting with the case.
Jesus is happy that authorities are not letting up on the case.
"I TMm afraid especially for my kids because I dont want them to see those type of things especially because that stuff stays in your mind, then they won TMt be able to concentrate at school," Moreno said.
The woman was found with a hole in her head.
Sheriff Trevino said that doesn't necessarily mean it TMs from a gunshot wound.
He said it could have been from the body decomposing, Trevino adds foreign documents were found on the woman- but it's still unclear where she may have been from.
Sheriff Trevino said they won't know what actually happened to the woman until the autopsy results come back.
The case remains under investigation.
