Dehydrated immigrants rescued from trunk following chase

Immigrant chase in Peñitas

Authorities are investigating a chase where dehydrated immigrants were rescued from the trunk of a car.

The chase ended of 3 Mile Line between Abram and Goodwin Roads around 11 a.m. Tuesday.

Peitas Police Chief Roel Bermea told Action 4 News that an officer saw a vehicle speeding on Tom Gill Road.

The driver lead the officer on a chase where the driver and seven other people bailed out of the vehicle on 3 Mile Line.

Law enforcement officials from several agencies responded to the scene where a Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) helicopter was in the skies.

Chief Bermea reported that everyone was caught but authorities discovered illegal immigrants in the trunk of the car.

One woman was airlifted out because she showed signs of dehydration.

Six immigrants were turned over to Border Patrol.

Chief Bermea reported that the driver is being questioned.
