Diocese of Brownsville mourns deaths of two priests
Tue, 22 Feb 2011 00:01:26 GMT —
The Diocese of Brownsville is asking parishioners to keep two priests and their families in their prayers.
Both Rev. John A. O'Malley and Rev. Ricard Garcia passed away on Sunday.
Diocese officials said O'Malley was retired and died after a lengthy illness but there were few details about Garcia's death.
Garcia was a priest at Mary Mother of the Church Catholic Church in Brownsvile where he reportedly died Sunday night at his pastoral home.
The church is also known locally as St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Youth minister david Lucio told Action 4 news that he and Father Garcia had just returned from a retreat.
"We just got off the confirmation retreat," Lucio said. "He was fine. He was silly. We were joking. But to me he seemed fine he was himself."
