Donna man, 26, charged with aggravated robbery
A 26-year-old Donna man has been charged after authorities say he held a convenience store at gunpoint on Sunday, then stole the business’ cash register.
Victor Javier Briseño, 26, of Donna was charged with aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony, on Wednesday, according to a news release from the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies say they responded to the alleged robbery that occurred at El Centenario Drive Thru in rural Alamo at about 8 p.m.
Witnesses at the scene said a man wearing a mask and wielding a handgun came into the store demanding money. The man discharged his weapon towards the floor, grabbed the cash register and drove away in a white-colored truck, according to the news release.
After the store owner advised Donna police of the alleged robbery, multiple agencies pursued the suspect vehicle. Authorities later found the vehicle abandoned in Donna.
Inside the vehicle, investigators found an ID belonging to Briseño and the cash register reported missing.
After gathering further evidence against him, investigators identified Briseño as the man who committed the robbery and subsequently arrested him.
Bond was set at $30,000.
Briseño has been transported to the Hidalgo County jail.
