A Donna teenager is recovering in a local hospital after skipping school and nearly drowning in a local canal.
It all happened at a canal off Business 83 and Val Verde Road early Tuesday afternoon.
Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Trevio told Action 4 News that three girls skipped classes from Donna High School.
The three teens went to a canal bank where one of them wanted to jump in the water.
The other girls didn't want to do it but the first girl jumped in and pulled one of them with her.
The girl who wanted to jump in was fine but the other girl who got pulled in did not surface.
The third girl ran up and down the canal banks yelling for help.
Residents of a nearby RV park came to the rescue and pulled the unconcious girl from the water.
Authorities said rescuers saved the near drowning victim's life using CPR.
Paramedics rushed the girl to a local hospital where she's recovering from the incident.
The first girl who wanted to jump only suffered cuts and bruises.
