Driver dead after slamming car into utility pole

Authorities are investigating an early Friday morning accident that ended with the driver dead and his passenger in critical condition.
The fatal accident happened on South Sugar Road and West Freddy Gonzalez Drive around 5 a.m. Friday.
Edinburg police told Action 4 News that 20-year-old Eric Davila slammed his grey Chevrolet Camaro into a utility pole.
Investigators reported that Davila was found dead but 20-year-old passenger Joshua Dezenea survived the accident.
Paramedics rushed Dezenea to a local hopsital where police said the man was listed in critical condition.
Police reported finding drugs and alcohol at the scene of the accident.
The accident remains under investigation but police said neither Davila nor Dezenea were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
